Lip Shrouds and Heel Shrouds for Buckets: Sizes and Selection

October 30, 2026

A bucket wears where the ground hits it hardest. Between the teeth, the lip takes constant sliding abrasion and impact. At the bottom corners, the heels drag along the floor on every pass. Lip shrouds cover the first spot and heel shrouds cover the second. Both are wear parts, so they are made to be replaced long before the bucket itself needs a rebuild.

Lip shrouds

Lip shrouds protect the cutting edge between the teeth. The sizes are sorted by the lip thickness they fit. Bevel angle matters as much as thickness, so check both against your edge before you order.

Lip savers

Lip savers sit on the edge and take the wear so the lip does not have to. Together with chocky bars they form a full lip assembly.

Heel shrouds

Achilles heel? Not today. Heel shrouds guard the bottom corners of the bucket, the spot that wears fastest on any machine that drags its floor. Sizes run by shroud thickness, so a heavier duty bucket moves up the table.

How to choose the right size

Start with the wear pattern, not the part number. A shroud that was changed because it wore through tells you the right thickness. A shroud that was cracked or torn off tells you the problem was impact, so ask about a tougher material or an overlay before you order the same part again.

Then match the fit. For lip shrouds that means lip thickness, bevel angle and width. For heel shrouds it means the seat, thickness and overall length. If the machine is unusual or the edge is already worn out of shape, send us the bucket details and photos and we will find the closest fit or design a custom part.

When a standard part is not enough

Raptor can fit tungsten carbide overlay to edge parts, tips and adapters at any of our CISC (Continuous Improvement Service Center) locations, which adds wear life where sliding abrasion is the main problem. We can also produce custom shrouds, lip assemblies and base edge assemblies, and repair or rebuild the bucket they go on. Where a laser scan helps with fit, we use it, though not every job can be scanned. For the full range of wear parts, see our ground engaging tools overview, or read how robotic overlay works.

Common questions

What is the difference between a lip shroud and a heel shroud?

A lip shroud protects the cutting edge between the teeth. A heel shroud protects the bottom corners of the bucket. Most buckets use both.

How do I know which size fits my bucket?

Match the lip thickness and bevel for lip shrouds, and the seat, thickness and length for heel shrouds. If you are unsure, send photos and the bucket model and we will confirm the fit.

Can you make a custom shroud?

Yes. If nothing in the tables fits, Raptor can design and fabricate a custom part. Any size, make or model, drop it off and we take care of the rest.

What should I send for a quote?

The machine and bucket model, the lip thickness and bevel or the corner dimensions, and a photo of the worn part. The more we have, the faster the answer.
